Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) has released its winter 2026 operating schedule, giving locals and visitors a clearer picture of opening and closing times across some of Cape Town’s most popular natural attractions.

As shorter days and cooler weather settle over the Cape Peninsula, several sites within the park will operate on revised winter hours. The seasonal adjustments are designed to align with daylight conditions while ensuring visitor safety and efficient park operations.
Among the attractions affected are Cape Point, the Cape of Good Hope section, Boulders Beach Penguin Colony, Silvermine, Tokai and various picnic and recreation areas managed by SANParks.
For travellers planning day trips, hikes or wildlife-viewing excursions, checking operating hours before setting off is especially important during winter. Gates at many sections of the park close earlier than they do during summer, leaving less daylight for activities such as hiking, cycling and sightseeing.
The winter schedule also coincides with one of the Cape’s most rewarding seasons for outdoor exploration. Cooler temperatures often make hiking more comfortable, while dramatic storm systems and clear post-rain days can create spectacular scenery across the peninsula.
Visitors heading up Table Mountain should note that the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway follows its own seasonal operating timetable and remains weather dependent throughout winter. Strong winds and poor visibility can result in temporary closures at short notice. During the winter season, operating hours are generally shorter than in summer.
SANParks encourages visitors to plan ahead, allow sufficient time for travel between attractions and remain aware of changing weather conditions, which can shift rapidly across the mountain and coastal sections of the park.
Whether you’re hoping to spot African penguins at Boulders, watch waves crash against the cliffs at Cape Point or enjoy a winter hike among the fynbos, a little planning can help make the most of a day in one of South Africa’s most iconic national parks.
